It’s been over 2 months since I started this crazy idea to ditch my shampoo and conditioner and go all cave – woman! Just kidding, I still wash my hair but it isn’t with your run-of-the-mill method of maintenance.
I wash my hair about every 3 days with baking soda and follow that with a thorough rinse and then squrt a apple cider vinegar in my hair as a conditioning rinse. The mixture is 3/4 water and 1/4 apple cider vinegar.
I apply a generous amount of coconut oil to my damp hair after I towel dry it and then brush it through. The next morning I have some great soft curls that I don’t think I could have gotten anyway else.
While my hair feels cleaner longer and is very soft , I think it’s still pretty dead from all the years of abuse. My ends are still on the dry side but I’m anticipating that as time continues, my hair will be healthier.
Since starting this method I have not used my flat iron to straighten my hair. It’s been way too hot for that but I’ll make sure to let you all know how it goes when I do. Also I still haven’t trimmed my hair although I should. I’m thinking of taking off at least 4 inches.
